We are the chosen generation.

Or so we’ve been told, much like generations before us. And to be sure, generations that will follow will hear the same message. But hey, we’re millennials, a group of special snowflakes that deserve a plethora of trophies purely for participation, which lends itself to the internal belief that, while past prophets have said it to others before, we really are chosen. As millennials (and mostly YSAs—we’re looking at you, Kennerley), we feel our perspectives on doctrinal and culturally-related issues within the LDS faith needed a place to thrive. Or at least exist without the restrictions of Twitter’s 140-character limit.

To be fair, Twitter does deserve some credit for the creation of this blog because it began when each of us individually started live-tweeting the October 2016 General Conference. After finding one another’s insights (and occasional doses of snark) relatable and interesting, we formed a group message, which led to the formation of a coalition entitled “The Intellectual Divas.” As divas are prone to believe, we decided the world should hear our insights, and The Chosen Generation was born. As individual authors as well as a collective group of inquisitive and faithful Latter-day Saints, we are dedicated to cultivating a space to share our unique perspectives on a variety of gospel topics. Part of this unique perspective comes from our extensive studies of English literature at the university level, and now we can’t help but to question, close read, and extrapolate on any kind of word, including (and perhaps especially) the Good Word.

Every month, we’ve chosen a topic on which to focus our posts. At the beginning of each month, we’ll do a roundtable post, where all five of us will offer our initial thoughts in conversation on one post. Throughout the rest of the month, each of us will write an article that centers on the chosen topic but showcases our individual interpretations and feelings on that theme. It’s important to note that all of us are at different points in our spiritual lives (or on the Old Ship Zion, the strait and narrow path, in different stages of the refining process on our way to becoming diamonds for Wilson’s Jewelers, workers in a vineyard which will, of course, be used to make only nonalcoholic beverages, etc.) and we’re all going to have things we agree or disagree on—but that’s what makes this a conversation, after all. While we do moderate comments, it is only because we want TCG to be a place of discussion where differing points of view can be reconciled and considered in a civil and respectful manner.
